Updated: Planned Parenthood Promotes Abortion on Mother's Day "Mother's Day Challenge" offers Mother's Day cards for donations to abortion provider
By Bob Ellis Dakota Voice Planned Parenthood is ready for Mother's Day and here to help you show your appreciation for the person who didn't abort you! Just in time for Mother's Day on Sunday, Planned Parenthood is issuing a "Mother's Day Challenge." People are being invited to make a donation "in honor of someone you love" to Planned Parenthood and get a Mother's Day e-card sent to their mothers. In emails to mailing list subscribers and on the Planned Parenthood website, the announcement says that donations received during this campaign will be doubled by a "generous matching gift." Donations up to $50,000 will be matched during the "Mother's Day Challenge" if received by midnight on Mother's Day. According to Planned Parenthood's website, their resource are "stretched" this year as they work on their "Stand with the States" campaign, which by the graphic on the website appears to target South Dakota among other states. South Dakota has come under intense scrutiny by pro-abortion groups since passing HB 1215 which would outlaw all abortions in South Dakota except those necessary to save the life of the mother. Mother's Day cards available from Planned Parenthood include the standard Planned Parenthood slogan "Every Child a Wanted Child" with a 1938 portrait of a woman kissing a baby; a card with a photo of women distributing "The Birth Control Review" in 1929; a photo of women with baby carriages outside Margaret Sanger's first birth control clinic in 1916; and one of a child surrounded by bubbles and the caption "A donation to Planned Parenthood has been made in your honor." The program disgusted Leslee Unruh, founder and president of the Abstinence Clearinghouse in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. "There are mothers that are hurting due to abortion," Unruh said. "I know of one woman in South Dakota who will not be celebrating Mother's Day due to a perforated uterus she got because of an abortion." Unruh has been very active in the pro-life movement and has been a key supporter of the South Dakota abortion ban. "This is a slap in the face to every woman in South Dakota and across America," Unruh concluded. "Hollywood is the last place we need to be looking for advice on motherhood." Linda Schauer, State Director of Concerned Women for America of South Dakota, was also appalled. "How does killing a baby in the womb help women and improve communities and families," she said. "The letter even suggests that you 'tell your mom you’ve donated in her name.' I guess one should be grateful that she didn’t abort you." Fidelis, a national Catholic advocacy group, called the challenge "reprehensible" and "shameful." "Perhaps the best response from those of us who truly appreciate motherhood is to make a donation on behalf of our mothers to a local crisis pregnancy center or pro-life group. The pro-life community and every decent American should not tolerate this crass abuse of one of our most cherished holidays," said Fidelis President Joseph Cella. Planned Parenthood entered the greeting card market a couple of years ago when they began marketing "Choice on Earth" Christmas cards, playing off the traditional "Peace on Earth" Christmas sentiment.
