Rushmore Rally
on November 4th!
BY GREG JOHNSON DAKOTA VOICE They won't be silent and they will worship their God before the stones of Mount Rushmore. This Saturday morning, November the fourth, at ten o'clock, the South Dakota Family Policy Council (SDFPC) sponsors it's last event before the crucial election coming up on November 7. The entire nation watches as South Dakota goes to vote on the abortion ban and marriage amendment. The Rushmore Rally will bring national speakers to South Dakota again. Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family will inspire and encourage listeners on the family issues. Janet Folger, President of Faith2Action, will speak to rally the troops. Alan Keyes will shed light on our Constitution, long hidden in a mire of lies and distortions. Dr. Rick Scarbourough, president and founder of Vision America also returns to Rapid City with his dynamic speaking to educate and edify with his passion for the Pastors. On Wednesday of this week, Dakota Voice interviewed Crystal Mulloy of the SDFPC about the upcoming Rushmore Rally. Mulloy is the Executive Assistant to Dale Bartscher, Field Director for the SDFPC, and Bob Fischer of Vote Yes for Life. We asked Mulloy how she became involved with the SDFPC. Mulloy: “When I was very young, probably eight or nine, I became aware of the abortion issue. I remember being sick to my stomach hearing about it, and begging God to give me a chance to help and wanting to go to Washington, D.C.” Dakota Voice: “How did you find out about it (abortion)?” Mulloy: “ I heard about it on Focus on the Family, and from Marlin Maddox (Point of View). From that time on I prayed to God that I could somehow become involved. I was so little and it seemed so wrong that they were killing these babies. When you're young you have this sense of life. When I listened to James Dobson and Marlin Maddox, they would say, 'call your Senators and Representatives'. So, I would call my Senators and pretend that I was my mom and say that I was going to vote on the issues accordingly. I had my parents' permission to do that.” “I ended up going to Washington, D.C. as a part of my school program at Colorado Christian University. That was a really neat experience to see the way that politics work, to work at the heart of it, and learn what it means to be a Christian and be involved in ... (the issues). What I also learned is that it matters most at local level; your local government.” “While I was living in Nebraska last December, I felt that God gave me the go ahead to quit my job there and move to South Dakota. I didn't know why; I didn't have a job. I eventually ran into Dennis Schmidt and was asked by him to work on his campaign. He happened to mention my name to Bob Fischer and at that time I became involved with my current position.” Dakota Voice: “Who is the main visionary for this event?” Mulloy: “Bob Fischer has the vision for ending abortion, marriage between one man and one woman, and raising the church up in South Dakota, inspiring Pastors and churches to stand up and not be apathetic. This is symbolic for the nation. South Dakota is leading the nation. We are going to a national monument and make a stand.” Dakota Voice: “Will there be national news coverage of this event?” Mulloy: “We don't know that yet, but we're praying that there will be.” Dakota Voice: “Who funds this event?” Mulloy: “All of the speakers are paying their own way and the SDFPC is paying for the remaining costs.” Dakota Voice: “How many people do you expect to attend?” Mulloy: “We are praying for up to one thousand. This rally will be a time to praise God and give Him the glory. For all the people who attend, we will have information about neighborhoods to canvass and phone numbers to call. We're praying that we will have a ton of people there who will be energized and go into their towns and get this information out about the truth.” Dakota Voice: “Is there anything else you would like to tell our readers?” Mulloy: “I've seen the breaking down of denominational walls... to see all of these South Dakota Pastors meeting and rallying together. We are not only rallying around the life of the child, we are rallying together around the life of Christ. I'm amazed to see all the people praying for us. God showed me when I was a little girl that the most important thing I could do is pray, but also that it's not the only thing I can do. Regardless of what happens in this election, God is in control. We are to rejoice in all that happens. Are we not to accept the bad as well as the good? Walls are being broken down.”
