Living Without Fear

Today's Men of Integrity devotional had not only a good story, but a "Thought to Apply" that impacted me.

Those who fear God face life fearlessly. Those who do not fear God end up fearing everything.—RICHARD HALVERSON (former U.S. Senate chaplain)

It occurred to me that you can see the truth of this thought played out in the world of current events. While it can be said that conservative Christians are concerned about a great many things (Christ does tell us to be salt and light in a fallen world, doesn't he?), I don't think we worry about world events nearly as much as liberals do.

I've talked with a number of Christian friends, and almost without fail, even though we often lament the destruction and suffering in this world brought on by doing things our way instead of God's way, in the end Christians usually acknowledge that God is ultimately in control of the outcome and has an ultimate plan for this world: a wiping away of all the dirty muck, to create a new Heaven and new Earth where there will be no sin or death. It just doesn't get better than that.

Meanwhile, those who don't place their hope in Almighty God worry that we're not throwing enough money at social problems to create our own "heaven on earth," worry about global warming wiping out mankind, asteroid strikes, too much carbs, having a fancier house than our neighbors, urban sprawl, running out of oil, mercury filled light bulbs, fried foods, lack of "free" health care, and whatever the "scare of the day" is.

I can't express how comforting it is to know that despite any and all problems we have here on earth, there is a God who loves us, and if we'll only put our trust in Him, we can know with certainty that everything is going to turn out okay in the end.
