It's Official: Napoli Retiring from Politics

Here's the official breaking of the news that Dist. 35 Senator Bill Napoli won't be running again next year. Advanced warning came last night from the South Dakota War College.

From the Rapid City Journal, with a reference to information from KOTA:

State Sen. Bill Napoli of Rapid City could run for re-election for another two-year term. But the District 35 Republican says it's time to get out of the way, so he won't run for re-election and instead will retire from politics.

Napoli said earlier this year that while he supported term limits when they were passed in 1992, but had since changed his mind and admitted he had been wrong. He said term limits were causing too many good legislators to be forced out of government service, and was weakening the legislative branch of government, leaving it hindered in it's obligation to balance the executive branch.

Senator Napoli is my representative in the South Dakota Senate. I haven't agreed with him on everything, but I have on most things. He's been a solid, reliable defender of human life and the family. I've greatly appreciated his plain-spoken manner of saying what's on his mind; you don't see much political-correctness from Bill Napoli.

He will be missed in Pierre.
