Scientist Gathering Challenges Gore 'Science'

WorldNetDaily reports on the gathering of more than 100 scientists at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change.

Environmental scientist S. Fred Singer and others gathered to shatter Al Gore's myth that humanity is causing global warming.

At the meeting, Singer presented a 40-page report on a study conducted over the past three years by the Nongovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The findings of the study are reflected in the title of the report: "Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate." A full copy of the report can be found at the Heartland Institute.

The report accepts that warming has occurred, but asks the all-important question: "How much is due to anthropogenic causes?" It points out that evidence of warming is not evidence that warming is man-caused. It also points out that the IPCC’s "hockey-stick" temperature analysis, widely cited as "proof" of man-made global warming, has been discredited. Also cited are warming and cooling trends which have occurred over the past 1,000 years.

Projections by computer models have also failed to hold up in the real world.

Ironically, the report says any modest warming is likely to produce positive economic benefits, not the disaster predicted by Al Gore.

The final word:

"Global warming is attributable to natural causes," Singer told WND, "so in that sense global warming is unstoppable, regardless what measures Al Gore or the U.N. want to impose on us with new international governmental regulations."

We should always be wary when business-loathing, Western-culture-hating environmental-extremist socialists come to us crying "The sky is falling."

Even a broken clock is right twice a day, but any "evidence" they present should be examined with a wary eye and their motives in mind.

Regarding your recent piece entitled "Scientist Gathering Challenges Gore 'Science,' I think you neglected to mention an important component.

The scientist in question, S. Fred Singer has a long history of inovlement with the oil industry as well as working for a variety of organizations that have received substantial oil company grants. This is in addition to his frequent work with Hearland Institue, a far right organization.

My point is without acknowledging an agenda,and positioning opinion as fact, you are doing a disservice to your readers. Regardless of the fact that pratically every leading environmental scientist in the world aknowledges mans influence on climate crisis, you are perpetuating falsehoods for your own benefit. Right or Left is irrelevant...what matters is the truth and I would expect your readers feel the same.

Thank you.

Mr. Vance, you left out two important components in your comment. Most scientists who endorse the theory of man-made climate change are not experts in that particular field and those that are are often recipients of enormous grants from Big Government and powerful environmental [sic] special interests groups.

Here are a couple of comments from bona fide experts:

“It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create in [sic] allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the "research" to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.” --John Coleman, Meteorologist and the founder of the cable TV Weather Channel

"They've been brainwashing us for 20 years, starting with the nuclear winter and now with the global warming. This scare will also run its course. In 15-20 years, we'll look back and see what a hoax this was." –Climatologist Dr. William Gray and the world’s most famous hurricane expert.

Yes, Booth, every scientist is on board with Al Gore...except for the thousands who aren't. Check EarthTimes.org or the Oregon Petition. Or you can click the "global warming" label on this site and read about the fraction of the multitude of scientists and reports which throw cold water on the global warming theory.

But I'm sure they're all in the pocket of Big Oil, too, and tied to Right Wing groups, right?

Like Al Gore isn't making a haul on his carbon credit schemes, and isn't tied to plenty of Leftist socialist groups? Like his anti-business and anti-Western bias might not be a clue to where his loyalties lie?

But regardless of political affiliations, take a look at the science, and maybe even throw in a dash of common sense. Not only does the science simply not support Gore's contention, evidence that any warming has natural causes is overwhelming. It defies reason to believe cars are warming the planet but the star in the middle of our solar system couldn't have anything to do with it. There is also evidence of cyclic warming and cooling over the centuries...but of course because Al Gore says so, THIS TIME it's caused by evil Western businesses.

Don't believe this flimsy whimsy pablum the "mainstream" media feeds you.

If your arguments are as strong as you believe then they should stand up to scrutiny from "the other side":

and

Take your arguments there.

Specifically, the "consensus" about anthropogenic climate change entails the following:

1) the climate is undergoing a pronounced warming trend beyond the range of natural variability;
2) the major cause of most of the observed warming is rising levels of the greenhouse gas CO2;
3) the rise in CO2 is the result of burning fossil fuels;
4) if CO2 continues to rise over the next century, the warming will continue; and
5) a climate change of the projected magnitude over this time frame represents potential danger to human welfare and the environment.

I'll take this "consensus" over Fred Singer and the "scientists" cherry picked for his conference.

Bob Ellis said...

I'll ask you again, brewski, to examine the science behind the contention of anthropogenic global warming, which is sorely lacking. Even a majority doesn't determine what's right, only what's popularly accepted.

If you're keen on what's popularly accepted, we could go back to Hitler's Germany where killing Jews was popular. Or when bleeding the sick to "cure" them was popular. Or when some thought the sun orbited the earth.

Following the herd instinct can be comforting...until reality slaps us in the face.

Don't forget to check out the list of thousands of scientists at the Oregon Petition who DON'T buy this myth.
