I’ve been pretty preoccupied the past few weeks with a busy emergency department and the hectic pace of summer classes at the university and have neglected my duties here at DV. I admit slacking a bit on keeping up with the news, too, but I don’t know how I missed the growing donner und blitzen over B. Hussein Obama’s birth certificate that just came to my attention today.
NRO’s “Campaign Spot,” in a post yesterday addressed the issue in it’s many facets: “Obama Could Debunk Some Rumors By Releasing His Birth Certificate.”
Speculation abounds as to why the Obama campaign has refused to release copies of his birth certificate, ranging from what his legal name is to his precise time of birth (Who knows what astrologers might uncover?) to whether he is, indeed, a natural-born citizen of the United States. The latter issue, of course, bears heavily upon whether Barrack Hussein Obama is eligible to be elected to the Presidency, not an insignificant consideration.
Given that the Constitution provides that only “natural-born” citizens are eligible to be president, doesn’t it seem obvious that a candidate would have to show proof of that citizenship at some point in the process before the actual inauguration? So what’s the beef about releasing his birth certificate now? Is there something embarrassing to be discovered? Or worse?
Legendx3 posted a comment at michellemalkin.com that does a nice job summarizing the issue of citizenship as it pertains to BO:
Barack Obama is not legally a U.S. Natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between “December 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986? . Presidential office requires a natural-born citizen if the child was not born to two U.S. Citizen parents, which of course is what exempts John McCain though he was born in the Panama Canal. US Law very clearly stipulates: “…If only one parent was a U.S. Citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.” Barack Obama’s father was not a U.S. Citizen and Obama’s mother was only 18 when Obama was born, which means though she had been a U.S. Citizen for 10 years, (or citizen perhaps because of Hawai’i being a territory) the mother fails the test for being so for at least 5 years **prior to** Barack Obama’s birth, but *after* age 16. It doesn’t matter *after* . In essence, she was not old enough to qualify her son for automatic U.S. Citizenship.

*** Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President. *** Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, all the other info does not matter because his mother is the one who needed to have been a U.S. Citzen for 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after age 16. Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the country for some time to protect any citizenship he would have had, rather than living in Indonesia. Now you can see why Obama’s aides stopped his speech about how we technically have more than 50 states, because it would have led to this discovery. This is very clear cut and a blaring violation of U.S. Election law. I think the Gov. Of California would be very insterested in knowing this if Obama were elected President without being a natural-born U.S. Citizen, and it would set precedence. Stay tuned to your TV sets because I suspect some of this information will be leaking through over the next several days…
Might this be the Ace of Spades that the Clinton camp has yet to play? If so, I would expect it to be flipped face-up at or near the Democratic National Convention.

It is very possible that Obama's parents never married. In his book, Dreams of My Father, he alludes to not being sure about the details of a marriage/divorce between his parents.
Given that John McCain was born in Panama and not the U.S., how come he is running for President? He's clearly not a "natural-born" citizen.
Did you read the whole post, Anon #2? McCain has U.S. citizenship because, though born outside the US, 8 USC 1401 says the child of two U.S. citizens is a U.S. citizen: "a person born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents both of whom are citizens of the United States and one of whom has had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions, prior to the birth of such person."
This happens all the time with military families stationed overseas in Europe and other places; their children, though born in England, Germany, or where ever are U.S. citizens.
I don't know the accuracy of these claims about Obama, but what they're stating is that according to the law, his parents did NOT meet the specified criteria.
What an abso-freakin-lutely crazy idiotic nonsensical bit of gossip for a real news organization to publish.
The only reason this question comes up is because McCain was born in Panama and Obama's detractors want to somehow accuse Obama of not being a US citizen.
Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. That should be enough evidence for anyone who questions his citizenship.
As far as why Obama hasn't released copies of his birth certificate? There's no need. Has any other presidential candidate in history has been asked to show his or her birth certificate for any reason?
And to comment on the Michelle Malkin claim about the law defining US Natural-born citizens, notice the Malkin quote refuses to cite the law that makes that definition.
You should be ashamed of yourselves for getting hoodwinked by an internet hoax.

Anonymous, you have to produce a birth certificate just to get a passport. Why is asking a candidate to release his birth certificate so outlandish? That Obama has refused only gives kooks like me reason to speculate. The Obama camp can easily shut us up. Just release the birth certificate and we can all move on to things like his inexperience, his relationships with avowed enemies of the state, his socialistic ideas, his willingness to capitulate to tyrants, his support for infanticide, etc.
