From the Culture and Media Institute, Rober Knight points out the latest attempt to reassign blame for the plight of homosexuals from their actual behavior.
Ceci Connolly, who writes for the Washington Post, blames moralists.
Globally, men who engage in homosexual relations are 19 times as likely to contract HIV as the rest of the population, according to data released at the International AIDS Conference. Here in Mexico, men who have sex with men are 109 times as likely as others to develop HIV, while in the United States, 53 percent of new infections in 2006 were in gay and bisexual men.
Connolly says not the performance of an immoral and unnatural is responsible, but
“Homophobia, biology and misplaced confidence that AIDS has become a treatable chronic illness…”
Knight points out the flawed logic Connelly displays with an illustration or two:
By this logic, health authorities who discourage smoking are actually causing the illnesses associated with smoking because of their tobaccophobia. The health authorities who fought tuberculosis by passing laws against spitting on city sidewalks were responsible for the epidemic because of their spitophobia.
Connolly acknowledges inconvenient facts such as that anal sex is the most efficient way to transmit the disease, but takes evasive maneuvers around the obvious implications of this fact by going back to the "stigma" excuse.
She does this even when the indicting facts come from objective sources:
Simple biology also contributes to the problem, [Robert] Wolitski [acting director of the CDC’s HIV/AIDS prevention program] noted. “This is a virus that is transmitted more easily via anal sex than vaginal sex,” he said.
It's not that homosexuals continue to engage in this dangerous and immoral practice to their own peril. It's not that many do so even without the minimally reliable use of condoms. It's not that homosexuals have insisted on reopening the bathhouses where anal sex is rampant. It's not that the media and other societal elites continue to preach the legitimacy and normality of this dangerous practice.
No, the ones to blame for the high disease rate among homosexuals are the people who have been saying that the practice is immoral, unnatural and unhealthy.
That's liberal "logic" if I've ever heard it.

Clearly, homophobia is to blame for such appalling statistics. While not specified explicitly by Connolly, we know that Christians are the real culprits in this sad enterprise.
