Mike Huckabee and I don't agree on too much outside abortion and marriage, but on the issue of marriage and homosexuality, he hit the nail on the head in a CNS News report today.
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.) says that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.) and former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.) should not have complied with decisions by their state supreme courts that ordered legal recognition of same-sex marriages.
In an exclusive video interview with CNSNews.com, Huckabee said that, had he been in Romney’s shoes, he would not have used his executive power as governor to carry out the court’s unilateral declaration that the other branches of state government must certify same-sex marriages.
You know, it’s interesting, the California decision as well as the Massachusetts decision, I don’t think should ever have been implemented by the governors, Schwarzenegger and Romney,” said Huckabee. “They were both decisions that the governors simply could have said the court has said that we have to do it, but let them enforce it. Because those were administrative decisions that had to put that in place and there was no mandate.”
He's absolutely right. It is the legislative branch that makes laws, and the executive branch ensures those laws are executed.
In the case of Massachusetts and California, you had a majority of unelected judges that pulled their preference out of the air and pronounced it to be "law."
There was nothing in the Mass. or Calif. constitution requiring that marriage be redefined for the first time in human history to include unions between two people who are biologically incapable of constituting or consummating a marriage.
And there was certainly no law even vaguely requiring or authorizing it. In the case of California, the people of California had specifically passed a law in 2000 making it clear that marriage is between a man and a woman.
The oligarchs of California heaped contempt on the law and the people of California with their imperial pronouncement. And Hollywood tough guy Arnold Schwarzenegger folded like a "girly man."
As did Mitt Romney in Massachusetts.
Huckabee's approach would have been the right one. "Judges, since you don't feel you need the other branches of government to do their jobs, you not only legislate, you can come and enforce the laws you make up."
We are not under any obligation to obey judicial activists acting outside the scope of their authority. In fact, they should be impeached for their brazen contempt for their duty.

Just wondering - how does Mrs. Ellis like having a husband who is so obsessively fixated on homosexuality?
From what she tells me, she appreciates having a husband who is willing to speak out for truth and morality...and for putting up with some of the most irrational comments that could ever be conceived.
She also indicates she enjoys my very heterosexual affection. :-)
Please don't flaunt your heterosexuality in public. It sickens me.
