The election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States is being widely heralded as an historic event marking the ultimate achievement of the civil rights movement. The Washington Post reports the comments of revelers on the streets cheering the announcement of Obama's victory. A sampling of comments includes "The sky has parted for Obama," "I think the healing between races will leap forward tremendously," "This is the day Dr. King talked about, I'm just glad I'm still here to witness it." Members of a congregation of Christians from the Union Temple Baptist Church cried and clapped, shouting "Hallelujah!" and "Thank you, Jesus!" when early returns showed Obama ahead. One ecstatic young woman shouted that after "400 years of slavery [sic] we are alive to see a black man in a white house."
Most of the commenters were identified in the article as "African-American." But now such distinctions are unnecessary. Racism has been defeated once and for all time by the election of Mr. Obama. Let the healing begin. Henceforth there will be no need to identify a person's color or ancestry in any news story. There will no longer be any purpose in asking about 'race' on applications for jobs, universities, grants, etc. What possible purpose could it serve? No one will ever again be interested in looking at racial "diversity." African-American Studies departments can now close up shop, both the name and the purpose an anachronism. With the end of racism, the very word "diversity" loses its meaning in this context, as does racial profiling and racial discrimination, racial preferences, etc.
No more affirmative action, minority business grants, housing subsidies, school busing, minority quotas of any kind. The debt owed by white Americans for "400 years of slavery" is now paid in full. Dr. Walter Williams granted me, a white man, full amnesty several years ago, but it means even more to me knowing that racism is now officially over in America.

The End of Racism. Hallelujah!

Wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to face all those "race" questions on the forms we fill out? I refuse to mark them and tell bureaucrats that if it's that important to them, they can look at me and fill it out themselves.
Anyway, it IS interesting to hear some of the "racism is over" talk. While it would be nice if we had really come to the point of judging a person "not by the color of their skin but the content of their character," I'm afraid "racism" will still be around for a long time to come. But not for the reason many people think.
See, the race pimps like Je$$ie Jack$on, Al Sharpton and others make a good living off pimping racism. No matter how scarce the real thing becomes, they'll always find cardboard "racism" to prop up in front of the American people.
