The Clinton Chameleon: Hillary Clinton Changing into Obama Now?

By Carrie K. Hutchens

It's been entertaining over the past months watching Hillary change her position from this to that and back again, depending upon what audience has been before her and how the tide was flowing at that particular moment. Even more interesting is how she stepped off the plane as Obama-Hillary. After all, it appears because it worked for him in Iowa, Hillary is now going to be the candidate for the young in New Hampshire. Does she likewise intend to be the black candidate in South Carolina since Obama carries that off so well, too?

According to the ABC News article "Hillary Clinton Says She is 'Most Innocent' on Campaign Trail" by Kate Snow (January 4, 2008), "As for losing Iowa, she discounted the impact. "Iowa doesn't have the best track record in determining who the party nominates," Clinton said. She offered several explanations for the loss. "I was never a front-runner of any significance in Iowa. I knew it had a lot of difficulties that were there in terms of my candidacy," she argued, perhaps referring to being the only female candidate in the race. "I knew it was always gonna be hard for me."

She admitted that her campaign lost support among younger Iowans. "

The article likewise says, "Clinton also faulted the caucus system for some of her troubles. She said that New Hampshire's primary vote would be more favorable for her since working voters have all day to show up and vote and don't have to arrive at a specific time required in Iowa under its unique caucus system. In New Hampshire, Clinton explained, "you're not disenfranchised if you work at night. You're not disenfranchised if you're not in the state."

If Iowa doesn't have such a good track record, why did Bill Clinton, and crowd, work so very hard to get the endorsement of the Des Moines Register?

If the Iowa caucus system is so faulty, why did Clinton even bother with the state and its cornfields?

One can only wonder if Hillary Clinton got the shock of her life when she was beaten, not just by Obama, but by John Edwards as well. Maybe it was only then that she began to feel that Iowa is flawed. It must be! After all, she is invincible. All anyone has had to do is ask her and she'd tell them so. Then the Iowans come along and dare to suggest differently? Something must be wrong with them. It couldn't be her. It couldn't be that maybe people actually, with good cause, don't want her for our next president.

The article also said, "She congratulated rivals Obama and John Edwards and thanked the others in the field.

"Together we have presented the case for change and made it absolutely clear that America needs a new beginning," Clinton said, using one of the key lines from her closing argument in Iowa."

Of course, it couldn't be "the people" who have made the case and made it clear, now could it? Hillary, the one who seems to think we need her making our decisions for us, most likely can't fathom that the American people are not all drooling idiots, but rather, intelligent forms of life who can process information without her assistance and self-serving translations.

In the Clinton travels there seems to be a trail of people blamed for whatever has gone wrong. Iowans are just the most recent in the long list it seems.

Perhaps New Hampshire will take their place at the bottom of the list by bumping them up one. It's an event to look forward to as we continue to watch the "Clinton Chameleon" change into whatever she feels will benefit her in the moment. Heaven forbid, after all, that she intentionally show the voters the real Hillary Clinton.

But then again... just maybe she has unintentionally done just that. Iowans certainly saw something they didn't like and stood behind their conviction! Now, we'll just have to wait and see how Obama-Hillary does in New Hampshire!
