10/21/2005 Airlift of Aid From Charlotte to Pakistan CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 21 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The earthquake that caused the death of more than 40,000 people in Pakistan and neighboring India also left millions homeless during the onslaught of harsh winter conditions. "It's encouraging that while we're dealing with devastating natural disasters right here in our own country, when tragedy strikes in other parts of the world, Americans continue to maintain a spirit of compassion and generosity," said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse. "The people in Pakistan are literally out in the cold right now and the help and resources they need aren't readily available." That's why the North Carolina-based relief organization is sending a Boeing 747 cargo jet to airlift 120 tons of emergency supplies, expanding its ongoing relief work in devastated Pakistan and India. The giant jet will depart Charlotte, Monday, Oct. 24, carrying enough rolls of weatherproof plastic to shelter 24,000 families, medicine and hospital equipment, hundreds of wheelchairs, and tons of blankets.
