10/29/2005 Roman Catholic Priest to Bush: Now is the Time to Stand
and Fight the Abortion Industry FRONT ROYAL, Va., Oct. 28 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Human Life International--the world's largest pro-family organization defending life, faith and the family around the globe--applauds Harriet Miers' decision to remove herself from consideration for the Supreme Court and believes the time has come for President Bush to demonstrate the same level of courage in combating the pervasive culture of death that has gripped our nation. "Harriet Miers made the right decision. In choosing to withdrawal, she put the best interests of our country and the Supreme Court above her own self-interests and we thank her for that," stated the Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, president of Human Life International (HLI). "We hope that the president will demonstrate an equal measure of courage and integrity by choosing a nominee who is unapologetically pro-life." In response to speculation that Bush first nominated Miers in an effort to avoid a contentious Senate confirmation battle, Fr. Euteneuer offered, "For 33 years, the unborn child has been denied the right-to-life and the American people have been denied their right to self governance. The public fight over abortion has been put off for too long and that must come to an end. "Mr. President, now is the time to stand and fight against the abortion industry and their water carriers in the United States Senate," continued Fr. Euteneuer. "More Catholics voted Republican in this last November's election than anytime since 1928. Catholics did so because they believed the administration would appoint judges who respect the Constitution and the inalienable rights of every human life," observed Fr. Euteneuer. "The fact is the abortion industry and their stalking horses in the Senate will attack any nominee with a history of respecting human dignity," said Fr. Euteneuer in response to demands for a so-called consensus candidate to replace Miers. "Faithful Catholics are itching for a fight over abortion, and will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the President to defend any nominee who has a clear record of respecting the life of the unborn child." Founded in 1981, Human Life International is the world's largest pro-life, pro-family organization that is dedicated to defending life, faith and the family, with branches and affiliates around the world.
