SD Stockgrowers and Independent Cattlemen of Neb. to hold joint Area Meetings
R-CALF fundraisers to precede each meeting

The South Dakota Stockgrowers Association (SDSGA) and the Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska, (ICON) along with their affiliate, the largest national organization devoted strictly to cattle producer issues, R-CALF USA, invite everyone to join them for dinner at two upcoming area meetings. R-CALF President Leo McDonnell, Columbus, Mont., will speak at each meeting. Meals at each of the meetings will be complimentary of SDSGA and ICON.

According to SDSGA Vice President and membership committee chairman Larry Nelson, Buffalo, S.D., rollover calf auctions will be held prior to each meeting to raise funds for R-CALF. “We encourage everyone to contribute to R-CALF this fall - not only ranchers, but main street businesses as well. Everyone benefits from a healthy cattle market, which is what R-CALF is dedicated to achieving.”

Nelson says calf sales will be held prior to each meeting. November 7, 2005, Martin Livestock, Martin, S.D., will auction a calf donated by Ken Knuppe, Buffalo Gap, S.D. A dinner meeting will follow at the American Legion at 6:00 pm. On November 8, 2005 a calf will be donated and will sell at Gordon Livestock in Gordon, Neb., with dinner and meeting to follow at 6:00 pm at the Legion.

“I encourage everyone in the neighborhood to attend at least one of the R-CALF fundraisers and area meetings,” said ICON Board Member Chris Abbott, Gordon, Neb. “Leo McDonnell is a top notch speaker and a sincere advocate of the U.S. cattle industry who can answer anyone’s questions about the business. What a great opportunity to meet with him and discuss R-CALF’s latest actions and future plans. The meetings are also a great place to get to know the state cattle organizations and see what they are doing for local producers.”

According to Nelson and Abbott, contributors during the rollover auctions will have the opportunity to become members of R-CALF and the state association of their choice – ICON or SDSGA.
