CHERTOFF: GOVERNMENT ‘NOT IN CONTROL’ OF BORDERS
FOUR YEARS AFTER 9/11, BORDERS WIDE OPEN TO TERRORISTS, CRIMINALS

Tombstone, AZ (November 2, 2005) – Chris Simcox, President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (“MCDC”) issued the following statement on Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff’s comments made on his recent inspection trip of the border at El Paso:

“Sec. Chertoff has finally admitted what the Minutemen have been saying for a long time: the federal government is “not in control” of our borders. Incredibly, Chertoff is not proposing immediate action to secure the borders from infiltration by terrorists bent on committing mass murder of Americans by chemical, biological or nuclear weapons. Instead, he is trying to snow the public with blunt rhetoric backed with impotent proposals that place the interests of foreign governments and special interest groups over the security of the American people.

“The Bush administration, aided by a complacent Congress, has been derelict in its duty to protect the country from invasion. On its watch, millions of illegal aliens have poured over our borders since 2001. American citizens living near the border have been terrorized daily by drug smugglers, coyotes and illegal aliens who destroy their property, invade their homes, rape, murder and threaten them with reprisals if they dare to defend themselves.

“The American people have long known what the federal government is finally admitting. This year, in response to outrage from their citizens, governors of southern border states have started to take action to defend their states because of the laissez-faire attitude to their security by the federal government.

“The fate of the nation cannot wait while bureaucrats and politicians dither. The Minutemen demand National Guard troops be placed on the border immediately, as the Army has done now in New Mexico, and remain there until such time as the Border Patrol is sufficiently staffed and funded to replace them.”
