Gov. Rounds Appoints First Circuit Judge

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Mike Rounds has appointed Magistrate Judge Bruce Anderson of Wagner to the First Circuit Court Judgeship.

“Mr. Anderson has demonstrated the understanding and experience that are necessary for him to serve the citizens of the First Judicial Circuit,” said Gov. Rounds on the appointment.

Judge Anderson, a native of Platte, is a 1985 graduate of Jamestown College in Jamestown, N.D., and a 1989 graduate of the University of South Dakota Law School in Vermillion, S.D.

After law school, Anderson worked as an associate for his friend and mentor, the late Lee A. Tappe of Platte until September of 1992, when he opened his own law office as a sole practitioner in Wagner. He has been engaged in the general practice of law for the past 13 years where he has gained a broad base of experience in various fields of law, as well as state, federal and tribal courts.

In 1995, Anderson was appointed as a part-time magistrate judge for the First Judicial Circuit in Southeast South Dakota, and holds that position today.

The First Circuit serves Aurora, Bon Homme, Brule, Buffalo, Charles Mix, Clay, Davison, Douglas, Hanson, Hutchinson, McCook, Turner, Union, and Yankton Counties.

Anderson replaces Judge Boyd L. McMurchie who resigned. Anderson will continue to reside in Wagner and will assume his new duties in January 2006.
