Black Hills Corp. Executives Honored Students, alumni and supporters honored by USD Business School VERMILLION, S.D. (Nov. 22, 2005) – Current and former students were in the spotlight as The University of South Dakota School of Business held its annual business school honors luncheon Oct. 22. Awards were presented for outstanding student, outstanding graduate student and distinguished service awards for alumni, South Dakotan, special merit and outstanding businessman. Joey Soukup, Wagner S.D. and Tabitha Hubert, Vermillion S.D., were named outstanding undergraduate students. Ryan Hehn of Clear Lake, S.D. and Amanda Peterson, Sioux Falls, S.D., were named outstanding graduate students. Both student awards are chosen by the faculty at the School of Business who take into account academic rank when determining who should be recognized. The distinguished service award for alumni was given to a number of executives from the Black Hills Corporation in Rapid City, S.D., including David Emery, chairman, president and CEO; Steven Helmers, senior vice president and general council; Garner Anderson, vice president and treasurer; Roxann Basham, vice president of governance and corporate secretary; Perry Krush, vice president controller and Kyle White, vice president of corporate affairs. All six have advanced in the Black Hills Corporation since their graduation from The U and remain involved in supporting the school of business. Also honored during the event was David Owen, executive director of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce as distinguished South Dakotan. Dr. William Bergman, retired professor of health services administration at The U received an award for distinguished special merit and William Shorma, President of Shur-Co., Inc., Yankton S.D., received an award as distinguished South Dakota businessman. Owen, Bergman and Shorma were honored for their contributions to The U and their continued involvement with the School of Business.
