Controversial Military Chaplain to Join Clergy at White House Protest

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt who will be fired from his post as a Navy chaplain for offering public prayers ending in Jesus' name, will join church leaders in front of the White House tomorrow, December 20, at 10:00 AM for a news conference protesting military policies prohibiting chaplains from praying "in Jesus' name." Chaplain Klingenschmitt will appear as a guest of Bill O'Reilly tonight on Fox's O'Reilly Factor.

Clergy representatives of the Churches of Christ, Evangelical, Methodist Episcopal, Pentecostal and Presbyterian churches will publicly ask President Bush to sign an executive order ensuring that chaplains may in all cases offer public prayers according to their own faith traditions.

The event is sponsored by the National Clergy Council and the Christian Defense Coalition. The moderator is the Reverend Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK), a board member of the Evangelical Church Alliance, one of the most active national endorsers of active duty military chaplains.
