Christian Defense Coalition Condemns Government's Practice of Gathering Intelligence at Places of Worship

Christian Defense Coalition Condemns the Government's Practice of Gathering Intelligence at Mosques Without Probable Cause or the Securing of Warrants Group says the practice is a betrayal of religious freedom and assembly as well as the trampling of the First Amendment.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 26 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The Christian Defense Coalition calls for the Bush Administration to reverse it's policy of allowing the gathering of intelligence at "places of worship" without probable cause, a policy that was put into place shortly after 9/11 by the Attorney General.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, comments, "Every American should feel secure in their right to worship and assemble without the fear of being monitored by the government. One of our nation's greatest strengths is that we provide a safe harbor for people of all faith traditions and religious views without the threat of government intimidation. Sadly, that safe harbor has been violated by allowing the gathering of intelligence at places of worship without probable cause or the securing of warrants. The Bush Administration cannot have it both ways. They cannot proclaim to the world that America is committed to protecting religious liberty while at the same time supporting a policy that allows monitoring places of worship and the gathering of intelligence without probable cause. Now is the time for the President, and Congress, to reverse this unjust policy and protect religious freedom."
