Ex-GOP
Official, 'Recovering Republican' John Lofton: Alito Should Not be Confirmed PASADENA, Md., Jan. 17 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following statement has been issued by "recovering Republican" John Lofton who was once a paid propagandist for the GOP at the Republican National Committee where his bosses were George H.W. Bush and Senator Bob Dole. Mr. Lofton, now a member of the Constitution Party, is Editor of a Web site, TheAmericanView.com, and he is co-host of the nationally-syndicated radio show "The American View." "The most important thing a Supreme Court judge (or any judge) must believe is that his role is to do justice according to a law higher than man’s law; he must do justice according to, first, the Law of the God of the Bible. By saying in his confirmation hearing that his Christian (Roman Catholic) religion and moral beliefs are for his "private life" only, Judge Alito has, thus, repudiated the number one qualification for a judge. "In another serious, and disqualifying, misunderstanding regarding what the role of a Supreme Court justice entails, Judge Alito told Sen. Charles Schumer that he did not agree with the ‘theory’ that ‘the Constitution always trumps stare decisis,’ judicial precedent. The supremacy of the Constitution is not, however, a ‘theory.’ Thus, even before he is sworn in as a high court justice, Judge Alito has repudiated the oath he would take in which he would swear to God to uphold only the Constitution, not judicial precedents. "Finally, Judge Alito is unqualified to be a Supreme Court justice because: He has said more than once referred to court rulings as "law" – which they are not; he has, as a lower court judge voted, in effect, in favor of infanticide by supporting a ruling striking down a ban on partial-birth abortion; and he has, approvingly, invoked Roe v. Wade which has led to the slaughter of more than 40 million innocent, unborn human beings."
