On Day of Senate Commerce Committee's Hearings on TV, Radio, and Internet Indecency
Christian Coalition Urges an Immediate Vote on 'Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act' Which Passed U.S. House by 389-38 Last April

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- Christian Coalition of America urges the Senate leadership -- on the day of the Senate Commerce Committee hearings on indecency on television, radio and the Internet -- to finally bring to the Senate floor for a vote the "Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act" which passed overwhelmingly by the U.S. House of Representatives by a margin of 389-38 last April. There is no excuse for a delay in the Senate floor vote now that the hearings have been completed.

According to a poll conducted by the reputable Pew Research Company, 75% of the American public are demanding greater enforcement of the laws regarding public broadcasting content particularly when children are present. Yet the United States Senate has refused to bring the "Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act", which will toughen penalties for violations by broadcasters, up for a vote.

The President of the Christian Coalition of America, Roberta Combs in her testimony on November 29th before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, chaired by Senator Ted Stevens, (R-AK), implored the U.S. Senate to pass the commonsense bill passed by the U. S. House of Representatives. Senator Sam Brownback's "Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act" will increase fines to $500,000 per violation of decency standards from the current paltry level of $32,500 per violation. Christian Coalition urges the Senate to also adopt the provisions in the House bill, which will eventually lead to license revocation for repetitive violations of the decency standards.
