CWA Questions Kate Michelman’s Testimony Against Judge Alito WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- Concerned Women for America’s (CWA’s) Chief Counsel Jan LaRue released an article today in which she questions the testimony of Kate Michelman before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Michelman testified in opposition to the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, citing her personal story about her “therapeutic abortion.” “Michelman made her story the ‘demonstrable reality’ of what women would face if Judge Alito is confirmed, and said it was ‘neither hyperbole nor hype,’” said Jan LaRue. “Her story raises several questions that no one bothered to ask. “Michelman testified that she had a ‘therapeutic abortion’ in a Pennsylvania hospital in 1969 after complying with a ‘state law’ that required her to obtain her husband’s consent. In fact, no Pennsylvania law permitted therapeutic abortion, and at least two doctors were prosecuted for performing abortions around that time. “No doubt Kate Michelman would want her testimony fairly judged. One might expect her to do the same for Samuel Alito.” Click http://www.humaneventsonline.com/articl e.php?id=11817 to read Jan LaRue’s analysis: “Testimony at Alito Hearing Raises Serious Questions about Kate Michelman’s Abortion Story.” LaRue’s article can be found on Human Events Online, and will be distributed outside Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building this morning at 9:30 a.m., where the Senate Judiciary Committee votes on Alito’s nomination. Concerned Women for America (CWA) is the nation's largest public policy women's organization.
