Transportation Commission Awards Bids
awarded $41.8 million dollars in bids for upcoming road construction and maintenance projects

PIERRE, SD – Governor Mike Rounds announced today the Transportation Commission awarded $41.8 million dollars in bids for upcoming road construction and maintenance projects. A total of 16 contracts were included in the awards. Information on the largest contracts, including the type of project, location, low bid and contractor to perform the work are as follows:

PenningtonCounty Building an interstate bridge on I-90 two miles east of the Elk Vale Road Exit. The $2.4 million contract was awarded to Swingen Construction Co. of Grand Forks, ND.

Resurfacing 11 miles of SD 44 between Airport Road in Rapid City and Farmingdale. The $2 million contract was awarded to Border States Paving, Inc. of Fargo, ND.

Resurfacing 1 mile of US 16A from SD 244 through Keystone to north of SD 40. The project also includes a bridge deck overlay, adding guardrails and curb and gutter. The $660,000 contract was awarded to Simon Contractors of SD, Inc of Rapid City.

Custer and Fall River Counties Grading seven and a half miles of two new lanes along US 79/US 18 from Maverick Junction to Buffalo Gap. The project also includes reconstruction and concrete paving of Maverick Junction. The $8.7 million contract was awarded to Zandstra Construction, Inc. of Rapid City, SD.

MeadeCounty Resurfacing eight miles of SD 34 between 22 miles east of Bear Butte and four miles west of UnionCenter. The $1.6 million contract was awarded to Anderson Western, Inc. of Bismarck, ND.

UnionCounty Remove and replace 12 ½ miles of concrete paving of the north-bound lane of I-29 from Elk Point, south. The project includes weigh-in-motion equipment. The $12.4 million contract was awarded to Fred Carlson Company, LLC of Sioux City, IA.

Day and Marshall Counties Resurfacing 9 miles of SD 27 from two miles south of Langford to six miles north and east of town. The $2.2 million contract was awarded to McLaughlin & Schulz, Inc. of Marshall, MN.

Butte County Concrete paving US 212 from US 85 at Belle Fourche to six miles west of town. The $4.5 million contract was awarded to Upper Plains Contracting, Inc. of Aberdeen, SD.

Lawrence County Resurfacing seven and a half miles of US 14A from Cheyenne Crossing to Lead and US 385 from US 14A west. The $1.8 million contract was awarded to Hills Materials Company of Rapid City, SD.

Lyman County Resurfacing 13 miles of US 83 from White River to SD 248 and from Kennebec, through town, to Reliance. The $3.4 million contract was awarded to McLaughlin & Schulz, Inc. of Marshall, MN.
