More Violence,
Discrimination and Damage to Those Associated with Efforts to Curb Illegal
Immigration
TEMECULA, Calif., Feb 3 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The public interest law firm of Lively, Ackerman & Cowles is filing a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against the City of Baldwin Park (CA) and an illegal immigration advocacy newspaper for injuries caused to a senior citizen. The complaint arises out of a protest that took place in Baldwin Park on May 14, 2005, where several groups, including Save Our State, Minuteman Project supporters, and others against illegal immigration, were protesting a racist and xenophobic public monument. The Danzas Indigenas Monument. located at the Baldwin Park Metrolink Station, states that: “It was better before they came” and “This land was Mexican once, was Indian always and is, And will be again.” According to the complaint being filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court, these are comments that any reasonable person would deem offensive, non- inclusive, hateful, discriminatory, directed at another’s national origin, and racist. It is claimed that these comments violate California's Proposition 187. The May 14, 2005 protest resulted in violence that was allegedly incited by many pro-illegal groups and the members of the Baldwin City Council. The day's events culminated in a filled water bottle being thrown at the Plaintiff, Dottie Dalton, who was caused to suffer brain injury as a result of the defendants' alleged actions and inactions. Furthermore, the news organization La Voz De Aztlan News Bulletin reported that Ms. Dalton "faked" her injuries and that the Minuteman Project is stashing assualt weapons and planning terrorism. Ms. Dalton has sued for defamation for these horrendous statements. According to lead attorney, Richard D. Ackerman, "This is a sad state of affairs. We have had to sue twice in as many weeks to protect the rights of those who simply want our borders secure. In our Minuteman Project case against the City of Laguna Beach we were forced to secure the First Amendment rights of those who wish to peacefully participate in a public parade. In this case, we are forced to end violence being leveled at peaceful protesters. In a civilized nation, no person should be deprived of rights or injured simply because they want existing laws enforced. The groups responsible for this conduct are bringing this nation closer to anarchy and unprecedented civil unrest." In a related matter, the denial of the Minuteman Project's application to participate in this year's Laguna Beach Patriots' Day Parade is set for its first hearing on Monday, February 6, 2006, at 8:30 am in Orange County Superior Court (Dept. 34). Ackerman expects the Dalton case to be set for its first hearing in a couple months. ------------------------------------------- Photos relating to the protest activity mentioned in the complaint can be found at: http://www.elmerfudd.us/darkwind/nohate0.htm http://www.alipac.us/ftopic- 3087-days0-orderasc-0.html
