World Congress of Families Founder Agrees With Moscow Mayor – Children Should Be Celebrated, Not Alternative Lifestyles ROCKFORD, Ill., Feb. 22 /Christian Newswire/ -- “Individuals involved in a homosexual lifestyle should have the same rights as other citizens.” said Allan Carlson, international secretary of the World Congress of Families. “Nevertheless, any society wanting a future should celebrate the natural and the fecund, not the intentionally barren,” the World Congress of Families head remarked. Carlson’s comments came in response to the decision of by Moscow’s city government not to issue a permit for what would have been Russia’s first gay pride parade. The parade was scheduled for May 27. “Even more than most European states, Russia faces a catastrophic birth dearth in the coming decades,” Carlson observed. “Russia’s population could shrink by half by the mid-point of this century.” Europeans should be promoting pro-natalist policies. Instead, the European Union and other bureaucracies seem intent on raising sterile sexual liaisons to the status of the natural family. In the guise of combating “homophobia,” the EU recently passed a resolution demanding that member states implement equality among relationships, including so-called gay marriage. Nikolai Alekseev, the leader of GayRussia.RU, says the decision by Mayor Yuri Luzhkov is a crime. Alekseev plans to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights. World Congress of Families IV is being planned for Warsaw, May 11-13, 2007. “Poland was chosen as the venue the fourth Congress because Europe is crucial to the future of the family. Unlike Western Europe, citizens of the former Soviet bloc still adhere to traditional values and understand the importance of the family to future of civilization,” Carlson explained. “Countries like Poland could serve as the cradle for a resurgence of family values in Europe.” For more information on the World Congress of Families or to become a member, visit our website, www.worldcongress.org.
