South Dakota State Senate Passes Bill to Ban Abortion: Christian Defense Coalition applauds this historic legislation

Bill will now go to Governor Rounds after the House passed a similar bill two weeks ago.  Christian Defense Coalition  comments that momentum is clearly building across the nation to overturn Roe v. Wade and ban abortion.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 22 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Coalition points out that several states are now considering similar abortion bans and with the Supreme Court agreeing to hear a ban on partial-birth abortion and polls showing that Americans growing uncomfortable with abortion on demand, it appears the foundations of Roe are crumbling.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, responds, "We applaud the courage of the South Dakota legislature in voting to ban abortion and end this tragic violence against women and children. With several states waiting in the wings to ban abortion, momentum is clearly building nationwide to overturn Roe. Polls are showing that more and more Americans are becoming uncomfortable with abortion and the overwhelming majority of our nation's young people feel abortion is ‘immoral'. Even Senator Hillary Clinton has stated abortion 'represents a tragic choice for many women.'

"The optimism in the pro-life community also surged yesterday when the Supreme Court agreed to hear a case on banning partial-birth abortion. All of these things indicate that Roe is slowly, but surely, being chipped away at. Our hope and prayer now is that Governor Michael Rounds will sign this bill and send a clear message to the other states to affirm the dignity of life."
