President Bush Urged to Restore Dignity and Civility to America's Borders
American People Need Border Security Not Lectures

PHOENIX, AZ March 23, 2006 – Chris Simcox, President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps issued the following statement on President George W. Bush’s thinly veiled scolding today of Americans who dare to insist that our government meet its constitutional obligations and secure our national borders. Bush stated that, “The immigration debate is a vital debate for our country. It's important that we have a serious debate, one that discusses the issues. But I urge members of Congress and I urge people who like to comment on this issue to make sure the rhetoric is in accord with our traditions.” Bush’s criticisms of border security and sovereignty advocates then went further, saying he expects “our country to conduct themselves” [sic] with “dignity” and “civility” in the debate on border security and immigration reform legislation. Simcox replies:

“Let’s address human dignity and civility, by all means. President Bush has allowed violence, indignity and incivility to reign supreme on our borders for his entire presidency while refusing to act to secure our borders against the daily crime wave crossing into our country and the vulnerability this lends to the threat of a terrorist attack. The fundamental humanity of millions of illegal aliens crossing illicitly into America is violated first by their coyote traffickers, and then by the employers who exploit their labor in an underground economy. All who sanction and endorse the lawlessness at our frontiers violate our American standards of human equality in grossly undignified fashion—using illegal migrants as cheap labor and indentured servants, and playing those immigrants waiting in lawful queue to enter as chumps.

“Human traffickers and those they service, however viciously, have all demonstrated their incivility and lack of respect for the dignity of Americans living and working in our border states—witness the home invasions, gang wars, assaults, rapes, shootouts, murders, deadly reckless driving and trashing of the environment that is perpetrated day and night as they violate our sovereign borders in their rush to ‘do the jobs Americans refuse to do.’

“Americans have suffered for years from the incivility of foreign criminal gangs who have turned sections of this country into ‘no go zones’ for citizens and law enforcement alike. Yet the president seems far more inclined to scold and lecture the American people on how to conduct themselves in the debate over guest worker amnesty programs, than to take decisive action and protect this nation from the onslaught of incivility on our borders and the overwhelming vulnerability this situation poses to national security.

“The American people are demanding the borders be secured immediately. They do not need hectoring, they need action. Until the president acts, the Minutemen will continue to do the job he refuses to do—which is to protect the dignity of our borders.”
