CWA: Terri Schiavo--Gone but Not Forgotten WASHINGTON, March 30 -- Concerned Women for America (CWA) offers its prayers and sympathy to the family of Terri Schindler Schiavo, the disabled woman who died one year ago tomorrow after Judge George Greer ordered that her feeding tube be removed. “On the eve of the first anniversary of Terri’s death, we offer our condolences to the Schindler family and all who were privileged enough to know this young woman,” said Wendy Wright, CWA’s President. “Terri’s precious life was cut short by the cruel orders of her husband Michael and the judge who ordered her execution. We must remember Terri’s death and the greater lesson that should be learned from this tragic story—the sanctity of every life. “Terri Schiavo is an example of what happens when a society disregards the value of human life. Regrettably we have deemed ourselves worthy of deciding whose life is worth saving. Ordering a woman to ‘dehydrate’ to death despite the fact that she has a loving family eager to care of her is despicable and should not be tolerated. “Life is precious, regardless of physical and mental handicaps, and we must never stop fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves. We have turned our backs on the people who rely on us to fight for their protection, those who have no voice or strength of their own. Terri and her family have tragically paid the price for our culture of expediency and callous attitude toward life. Our sincere prayers are with the Schindlers as they mourn the death of their daughter, sister and friend.” Today the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation will hold a press conference in honor of Terri’s passing. The press conference will take place at 11:00 in the “Senate Swamp” outside of the Russell Senate Office Building. CWA’s Web site features a banner that links to resources and a retrospective on the battle for Terri’s life. Concerned Women for America (CWA) is the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization.
