'A Life That
Matters'
NEW YORK, April 12 -- "We are not the people you think we are." Terri Schiavo’s family recounts the infamous and highly controversial life or death case that thrust their private family in to the spotlight in A LIFE THAT MATTERS: THE LEGACY OF TERRI SCHIAVO – A LESSON FOR US ALL [Warner Books: March 28, 2006]. This new book may well change every assumption that the American public has about Terri Schiavo’s too-brief life and prolonged, agonizing death. In the Schindler family’s highly personal and extremely emotional re-telling of Terri Schiavo’s life, spirit, and the terrible legal battles that surrounded her death, America will learn of the love Bob and Mary Schindler had for their daughter, the closeness of the family that supported her, and the missing pieces of the story that were suppressed by the mainstream media and excluded from the courtroom evidence. On March 31, 2005, Terri Schiavo’s life came to an end as the result of a series of dramatic, highly- publicized courtroom decisions. She died of severe dehydration and lack of nutrition days after the courts mandated that her feeding tube be removed. Now, a year later, the family is prepared to let the public into their private emotional struggles, the battle with Michael Schiavo, and the truth behind the media hype. "Our story is not the one we believe you were told, the one you saw on television and read in the newspapers. Our story – the real story – has never been told; no one, not even our closest friends, knew the struggles we went through mentally and emotionally as fifteen terrible years went by." About the Schindler Family: Terri Schaivo’s parents, Mary and Robert Schindler, along with her brother and sister, Bobby Schindler and Suzanne Schindler-Vitadamo, now work together full-time for The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation (www.terrisfight.org), headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida. The foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the rights of disabled, elderly, and vulnerable citizens against care rationing, euthanasia, and medical killing.
