Church of
Scotland Discards the Humanity of Embryonic Children
SAN DIEGO, April 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- According to a recent article in The Scotsman, the Church of Scotland has affirmed the use of embryonic stem cell research under certain circumstances. http://news.scotsman.com/index.cfm? id=598922006 The article states, "The Kirk's Society, Religion and Technology Project decided it was ethical to use embryos created during IVF treatment if they were under 14 days old." Phil Magnan, Director of Biblical Family Advocates responded by saying, "It seems remarkable for a committee of the Church of Scotland to come to the indefensible position to kill tiny humans, justifying it under the umbrella of possible cures." "The amazing and ethical use of adult and cord blood stem cells should be the battle cry for sanity and compassion for the treatment of disease, from the Church of Scotland, not the widespread destruction of human life. In their attempt to be compassionate, many will be killed, which seems contradictory to their original purpose." Magnan continued, "As a believer in Christ I would affirm that in no uncertain terms that God is watching how we treat the most vulnerable in our society. The best use of an extra embryo from an IVF Clinic is to allow the embryonic child to be adopted by married couples who cannot conceive or simply want to rescue these little ones from cold storage." http://www.embryoadoption.org/ Magnan continued by saying, "And does not the Bible itself in Job 3.3 and Luke 1:36 consider the embryo to be just as human as you or I? Are not all humans made in God’s image? Are we not guilty of coveting that leads to killing when we rob an unborn child of their vital parts to live?" James 4:2 "Are we not violating the 6th, 8th and 10th commandment by killing, stealing and coveting the very life of our neighbour? Jesus was clear that when we did it to the 'least of these' we did it Him." Biblical Family Advocates is calling on Christian churches around the world to pray that the Church of Scotland will come to a better solution, instead of affirming the killing and discriminating against the pre born child based on their age.
