Dems should
resist obstruction tactics on judicial nominee PIERRE Friday, May 5, 2006 – Democrat obstruction of President Bush’s judicial nominees doesn’t serve America or South Dakota well, South Dakota Republican Party Executive Director Max Wetz said Friday, and Brett Kavanaugh and other judicial nominees deserve a fair and speedy confirmation. Sen. Tim Johnson’s fellow Democrats have threatened to block President Bush’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Court of Appeals. The South Dakota Republicans are calling on Johnson to break with his party leaders and support giving Kavanaugh a fair up or down vote. “South Dakotans clearly dislike the obstructionist tactics the Democrats have employed over the years,” Wetz said. “Sen. Johnson needs to take that to heart and see to it that the President’s judicial nominees aren’t strung along for years on end. “Mr. Kavanaugh, like all nominees, deserves a fair confirmation process, not grandstanding and endless delays,” Wetz said. “I strongly urge the Senate to move quickly on this nomination.”
