CWA Says Guttmacher Report on Abortion as Credible as a Tobacco Industry's Report on Nicotine WASHINGTON, May 4 /Christian Newswire/ -- Concerned Women for America (CWA) called into question a Guttmacher report released today titled “Abortion in Women’s Lives.” The paper attempts to deny the ever- accumulating evidence that abortion harms women physically and psychologically. “This report reveals the way abortion advocates choose to address the problem that abortion harms women is by ignoring the increasing evidence and women’s testimonies of their own experiences,” said Wendy Wright, CWA’s President. “A study by Guttmacher Institute on abortion should be taken with as much seriousness as a tobacco industry study on nicotine. “True to form, Guttmacher asserts that abortion is safe, then claims abortion providers have the solution for reducing what it says is harmless. If abortion is harmless like Guttmacher claims, why should there be fewer of them? “The most recent evidence of abortion’s harm comes from a New Zealand researcher who studied a group of 500 girls from birth to age 25. The pro-choice, atheist researcher found a definitive link between abortion and depression, even after accounting for previous mental illnesses and other conditions. “Clearly, abortion carries numerous medical risks— even death, as we have seen with the abortion pill RU-486. The physical and emotional trauma a woman endures during and after an abortion can be excruciating. Women and policymakers should read through this biased report and recognize the research that reveals abortion is a dangerous medical risk. “The report asserts that a woman with an unintended pregnancy should have the right to decide whether or not she is ‘ready’ to be a mother. The fact is, she already is a mother; the question is whether she will be the mother of a living child or a dead child. It is absurd to suggest that a human being’s life is not worthwhile or valuable because the woman did not pre-plan her pregnancy. All life is valuable—even an unplanned one. And taking an innocent human life leaves scars, some physical, some psychological, and some spiritual.” Click to read a CWA article on the physical and emotional risks of abortion.
