Christian Author D.W. Murray says 'With the Da Vinci Code, the Devil is in the Details' May 8 /Christian Newswire/ -- D.W.Murray, author of Majesty, The Sorcerer and the Saint, draws a distinct line between fact and fiction, unlike Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code. Murray says although Dan Brown cleverly admits his work is fiction, in the next breath Brown claims that the ancient documents presented in his book are factual and real, referring to a series of documents dating back to the 1960s and 70s, which claim the existence of a bloodline descending from Mary Magdalene. In a simplistic and literal sense, the documents are real in that you can see and touch them, but it is not the document, rather the information written on the documents that Mr. Brown boldly suggests is historically factual. However upon examination, the information within the documents has been proven to be absolute and utter fiction. The author Pierre Plantard created the document himself, 40 years earlier. In it he outlined the mysterious bloodline and even included himself as a modern day descendant. The Priory of Sion, the secret society, keepers of the Holy Grail, the Knight’s Templar discovery of the long lost document, is all pure fiction, designed to entertain while at the same time, deceive and refute the deity of Christ. Dan Brown hangs all of his truth claims on the fiction of Plantard, and a 1982 book entitled Holy Blood, Holy Grail, another piece of creative writing which the author admits is pure fiction. Murray concludes that the public needs to know that despite the popularity of the book and film, there is no real truth to be found in The Da Vinci Code, certainly no significant truth about the person of Christ; and reminds us of the old adage, "what is popular is not often true and what is true is not often popular."
