CWA Exposes Faulty AP Report on 'Gay Brain' Study

WASHINGTON, May 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- A widely-circulated Associated Press (AP) article suggesting that a new Swedish study indicates that homosexuality is genetic is seriously misleading, according to an article by CWA’s Culture & Family Institute (CFI) posted today.

The AP article claims that a new study on lesbians, combined with a study last year on homosexual men, “adds weight to the idea that homosexuality has a physical basis and is not learned behavior.”

One of the lead researchers, Dr. Ivanka Savic, has set the record straight in an e-mail to Grove City College Professor of Psychology Dr. Warren Throckmorton, who discussed it with CFI Director Robert Knight.

“This AP report is yet another vehicle to promote the homosexual agenda,” Knight said. “The article blows the Swedish findings out of proportion in order to give the impression that people are born homosexual. There is no credible scientific evidence that directly links homosexuality with genetic or biological causes.

“The Swedish study merely found that lesbians respond differently, not that their brains were hardwired that way before any sexual activity. Recent brain research shows that brain patterns may emerge in response to certain activities.

“A common flaw in interpreting ‘gay gene’ studies is the supposition that supposed differences in the brain are genetic in origin rather than the result of behavioral change.”
