South Dakota Family Policy Council Releases Voter Guide Provides information about where candidates stand on the issues
By Bob Ellis Dakota Voice The South Dakota Family Policy Council has released its 2006 Primary Election Voter Guide of candidates for the state legislature and for governor. The guide can be found on the sdfamily.org website by clicking here, and can be printed for use as a church bulletin insert. The guide was compiled from candidates' answers to a questionnaire and from the voting records of those who were in the state legislature during the 2005 and 2006 sessions. All candidates were provided an opportunity to respond to the questionnaire by regular mail. Those who did not return the questionnaire were contacted by phone and email. Lynn St. Angelo at the South Dakota Family Policy Council said every effort was made to provide an opportunity for candidates to respond so that the voters of South Dakota can know where they stand on the issues. St. Angelo also said that while candidates who did not respond to questions will be marked with "NA," other candidates who have no opponent in their party in the June 6 primary election will not appear in the guide at all; she said they would be listed in the voter guide which will be printed and distributed statewide in the fall for the general election. Any questionnaire responses that come in will be immediately updated on the website, so SDFPC encourages constituents to ask their candidates to respond if they have not already done so. According to St. Angelo, the South Dakota Family Policy Council would like to print copies for churches, organizations and their mailing list across the state, however, the cost of printing would be $5,000-$10,000 and the organization cannot spare those funds at this time. The South Dakota Family Policy Council is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with offices in Sioux Falls and Rapid City, serving the entire state of South Dakota.
