Faith Coalitions' News Conference on National Call to Save Mount Soledad Cross
Christian Defense Coalition and Faith and Action issue national call to save Mount Soledad Cross, in San Diego California, and to stand against the erosion of religious freedom and liberty.

SAN DIEGO, May 23 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Christian Defense Coalition and Faith and Action will be asking the faith community, and all those who cherish religious liberty and free speech, to join with them as they peacefully and prayerfully intervene to prevent the removal of the cross.

The groups were the organizers of rallies and demonstrations in support of Chief Justice Roy Moore’s struggle to publicly display the Ten Commandments in Montgomery, Alabama.

A federal judge has ordered the City of San Diego to remove the cross, which has been in place over 50 years as a memorial for Korean War Veterans, within 90 days.

News Conference Details--- *Note* The news conference will still be held regardless of how the San Diego City Council votes.

When: Wednesday, May 24, 2:00 PM (Pacific Coast Time)

Where: At the Mount Soledad Cross

Why: The Christian Defense Coalition and Faith and Action, both based in Washington, D.C., will discuss their plans in detail

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, comments, “Sadly, we are witnessing a crushing and trampling of religious expression within the public square across our nation. The removal of this historic cross, which has served to honor Korean War veterans for over half a century, dramatically illustrates this tragic point. It must be constantly stressed that the Constitution promises ‘freedom of religion’ and not ‘freedom from religion.’ Therefore, we are issuing a national call for the faith community and people of good will to come to San Diego and peacefully and prayerfully intervene to prevent the removal of the cross. We cannot longer be silent as our freedoms and history are being stripped away.”

Rev. Rob Schenk, President of Faith and Action, states, “As a Christian and one who is named for fallen Korean War veteran, this is a double offense to me. The forced removal of a sacred and historic symbol for both the living and the dead is a supreme insult to these heroes and to the 100 million Christian citizens for whom the cross has deep meaning. Shame on the federal courts and activist judges that seek to strip these important symbols from the American landscape. If we are silent now, what freedoms and liberties will we lose next?”
