Church / State Scholar to Address Free Luncheon for Conservative Religious Leaders WASHINGTON, May 31 /Christian Newswire/ -- Leaders of conservative religious organizations are invited to a June 13, complementary luncheon featuring Dr. James Hutson, the premiere scholar on Thomas Jefferson’s “wall of separation” letter to the Danbury Association of Baptists. The event will be held in the US House of Representatives Rayburn Building on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Dr. Hutson, chief of manuscripts for the Library of Congress and custodian of the original Danbury letter and its first two drafts, has done extensive scholarship on the documents. He recently commissioned classified FBI analysis of Jefferson’s previously illegible inked out margin notes. The startling results challenge more than 50 years of court cases and legislation on church and state. The luncheon will inaugurate the Reese Roundtable on Capitol Hill, a forum for exploring the guiding principles espoused by the American Founders and enshrined in the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. The occasion also marks the release of Dr. Huston’s newest book, The Founders on Religion, published by Princeton University Press. Each attendee will receive a complementary autographed copy of the book. There is no cost to the two-hour program and meal. No fundraising will attend before, during or after the event. Clergy, heads of conservative religious organizations, media representatives, reporters and journalists are invited as individuals or groups. Admission is open to the first 50 reservations. Pre- registration is required. RSVP with name, professional position, number in party and contact information to Allyson Black at allysonblack@faithandaction.org or 202-546-8329, extension 104.
