CWA Endorses McCain's Cable Choice Bill WASHINGTON, June 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Concerned Women for America (CWA) expressed its support for cable choice legislation introduced today by Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona). Known as the CHOICE Act, McCain’s legislation would allow cable consumers to choose the channels they wish to subscribe to, rather than forcing them to pay for the predetermined packages decided on by cable companies. “The CHOICE Act would take control away from cable powerhouses and put it where it belongs—in the hands of cable consumers,” said Lanier Swann, CWA’s Director of Government Relations. “These goliaths of greed make no effort to meet the needs and preferences of their paying customers. They seem to care only about filling their deep pockets by charging people money for programs they don’t even watch.” Cable choice offers a two-fold advantage: 1) It allows parents to monitor the content that their children are able to view by cutting out channels that might transmit offensive programming, and 2) It saves all customers money by letting them pick and choose the channels they wish to purchase, rather than paying for the 100-channel line-up offered currently. Swann continued, “We urge concerned citizens to continue making their families a high priority by calling their representatives and letting them know that cable choice is a great choice for families. Congress must take this issue seriously and pass the CHOICE Act as soon as possible. “CWA supports the CHOICE Act because it gives families another way to protect their children without overbearing government regulation. We believe families deserve choice. Cable choice.” Concerned Women for America is the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization.
