Whalen Responds to Howard Dean! RAPID CITY – "Indians are calling for job creation in place of more federal bureaucracy as envisioned by Howard Dean", said Bruce Whalen. Democrats for years have not put words to action in Indian Country. South Dakota became a state in 1889 and since then the Democrat Party has not sent an American Indian to Congress. In 1961, the South Dakota Republican Party sent Rosebud Sioux Tribal member Ben Reifel to congress and currently supports me as its candidate in 2006 for United States House of Representatives. This fact tells me the Democrat Party lacks sincerity toward supporting American Indians for congress while cajoling them for votes. The fact is that five of the poorest areas in the United States are associated with South Dakota and Indian Reservations. Democrat leaders have done little in the federal arena to improve quality of life and meaningful employment on Indian reservations except to further dependency on federal programming. Howard Dean promotes this type of socialism to advance commanding control over American Indian voters of South Dakota. Indian Country wants change and this is proven by the support it gave to Republican Senate Candidate John Thune during the 2004 election cycle. "Indians are calling for job creation in place of more federal bureaucracy as envisioned by Howard Dean", said Bruce Whalen. South Dakota voters see the wisdom of sending Bruce Whalen, who was born and raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Oglala Lakota College, to represent Indian Country and South Dakota family values in Congress. "My story is one of success. I survived Howard Dean's dependency model on federal programming and reject his future vision of socialism for Indian Country and South Dakota families. Miss Herseth will do disservice to South Dakota citizens in continuing to support Dean's plans to socialize this great state," said Bruce Whalen.
