South Dakota Vietnam Memorial Book/DVD Available

Covers memorial dedication, parade and ceremony

PIERRE, S.D. – An estimated 32,000 people attended the Sept. 15-16 dedication of South Dakota’s Vietnam War Memorial in Pierre. If you couldn’t attend or didn’t catch the broadcast coverage, or you just want to see it again, the sights and sounds of this once-in-a-lifetime event have been captured for posterity.

To watch the parade and dedication ceremony via the Internet, visit South Dakota Public Broadcasting’s website at www.sdpb.org and click on the Television link.

SDPB Television will present two encore broadcasts of the dedication ceremony: Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1:00 p.m. CT/noon MT and Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23 at 3:00 p.m. CT/2:00 MT. While the parade will not be rebroadcast, parade coverage is included in a commemorative DVD being made available by South Dakota Public Broadcasting.

This special two-disc DVD includes the parade, the dedication ceremony, and the family remembrance service. Cost is $19.95, plus shipping and handling. Copies of “South Dakota Remembers,” a commemorative book created to honor South Dakotans who served in the Vietnam conflict, are still available from the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce by calling (800) 962-2034. Cost is $57, plus shipping and handling.
